Join us for this exclusive preview of a major exhibition, EARTHSKY, of new works by the internationally celebrated Turner Prize-winning British Landscape artist, Richard Long.

Richard Long is one of the most influential figures of conceptual and land art, part of a generation of distinguished British artists who extended the possibilities of sculpture beyond traditional materials and method. Long’s work is rooted in his deep affinity and engagement with nature, developed during solitary walks.

Long’s new pieces in the grounds of Houghton Hall use a variety of materials, including local carr stone, trees from the Estate and slate, and accompany the permanent Long sculpture, Full Moon Circle, which was commissioned for Houghton in 2003. There will also be an exhibition of documentation and ephemera from Long’s previous works.

The show will be the largest since his retrospective at the Tate in 2009, and will be a unique opportunity to see new site-responsive works set within the historic landscape and gardens at Houghton, which contain permanent artworks by a range of contemporary artists, including James Turrell, Zhan Wang, Jeppe Hein, Stephen Cox, Rachel Whiteread, Anya Gallaccio and Phillip King.

Be amongst the very first to explore a new exhibition from Norfolk By Design, appearing alongside the Long exhibition in the stables at Houghton, showing a marvellous cornucopia of artists, makers and designers based in Norfolk. All works are for sale – prepare to be tempted.

We will finish with a drinks reception in the Picture Gallery hosted by the Marquess & Marchioness of Cholmondeley.

This event promises to be very popular so please book early. Tickets are £35 per person.
