Join us for a morning at Wolterton Hall to see the wonderful exhibitions that mark the launch in 2025 of a new Arts and Culture programme. We are delighted to be welcomed by Tom Ellis, whose family acquired Wolterton Hall in 2023. Tom will tell us about their plans and ambitions for the programme in the years ahead.
In the Marble Hall and Portrait Room we will see the inaugural exhibition Sea State, featuring new work by Maggi Hambling and Ro Robertson. Responding to humanity’s enduring, complex and increasingly precarious relationship with the ocean, this is the first time that Hambling and Robertson have exhibited together, focussing on a shared longstanding, deeply personal connection to the coast. Sea State is co-curated by Simon Oldfield and Gemma Rolls-Bentley.
Wolterton is also hosting Norwich-based Clay Research Group (CRG), a collective of artists and potters dedicated to exploring locally sourced ceramic materials. They are delving into the landscape of Wolterton, drawing a direct connection to the Hall’s construction in 1741, when clay was extracted from the local area to make bricks for the building. Alongside this project, artist (and EAAF member) Nessie Stonebridge, is presenting an independent body of work in the Billiards Room, including paintings and sculptures created using clay from the same local sources and the Norfolk coast at Holme. Nessie will be on hand to talk about her work on show.
Tickets are £15 per person and include coffee or tea and a pastel de nata (little custard tart) from Bread Source on arrival! Your host for the event is Amanda Geitner.
