Ronald Blythe (1922-2023) was East Anglia’s grand old man of letters. Ian Collins, his friend and author of a new biography, will tell his story in our Annual Lecture - Blythe Spirit: The Remarkable Life of Ronald Blythe.

Born into rural poverty, Ronnie Blythe educated himself in public libraries. His 40 books include the classic Akenfield portrait of a Suffolk village prompting a Peter Hall film. His circle included artists Cedric Morris, John and Christine Nash – whose house he inherited – composer Benjamin Britten and writers E.M. Forster and Patricia Highsmith. His fascinating life is all about East Anglia at its most creative.

This year, the EAAF Annual Lecture is held in Memory of Ian Scheviz McIntyre (1937 - 2024) to honour his tireless and generous support of the visual arts in the region. Ian Collins and Ian McIntyre met early in Collins' career, Ian McInytre was responsible for Collins' first publication and introduction to Ronald Blythe!

Tickets are £18 and include drinks on arrival. Ian's biography of Ronald Blythe will be available to buy on the night.
