Helgate Pottery studio is based in the heart of Norwich, providing classes, residencies, and studios for local artists. Join us for a hands-on afternoon, talking to makers and working with clay to make something of our own.
We will be hosted by potters Ali Hewson and Edmund Davies. They will tell us about their own ceramic work and the plans and ambitions for Helgate Pottery, before guiding us to make some slipware and hand-built pieces. We will split in to two groups, spending an hour with each maker - coming together for tea and cake in the middle of the afternoon.
Hidden within a historic yard behind neighbouring Norwich Arts Centre, Helgate takes it name from Heigham Gate, known throughout the middle ages as Hell Gate or Helgate, which along with Benedict's Gate was one of the nearby north-westerly gateways into the once walled city. Helgate is run by James Wreford and Edmund Davies, with additional teaching from Rachel Kurdynowska and Rollo Timothy George.
Tickets are £45 per person and include talks, materials and afternoon tea. Event hosted by Amanda Geitner and Emma Hazell.
