Join us on this visit to two wonderful exhibitions and vibrant gallery spaces in Colchester! We start our day at The Minories, with a welcome from Director Emma Howe. Artists Malca Schotten and Barbara Laws will talk to us about their exhibition Pictures from an Exhibition, which began with Schotten's observation of visitors looking and engaging with art works at the Sainsbury Centre, Norwich.
We will lunch at The Minories in The Commons Community Cafe and Kitchen.
Then onwards to Firstsite where Amanda Geitner will give a tour of Leonora Carrington: Avatars & Alliances. Marking 50 years since the English translation of The Hearing Trumpet, Leonora Carrington’s 1974 novel, was published, this exhibition offers a fresh exploration of her extraordinary life, career and travels. Featuring over 50 artworks and objects by the British-Mexican artist, and by the artistic friends she made through her travels, including photographer Lee Miller, Argentinian-born Leonor Fini, English artist and Surrealist advocate Roland Penrose, and surrealist painter Max Ernst. Indeed, two works by Ernst featured in the exhibition are lent by EAAF from the Adeane Collection.
Tickets are £35 and include tea and coffee on arrival, lunch and talks. Event hosted by Amanda Geitner and Emma Hazell.
