Until Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries in the 1530s, Walsingham was for nearly 500 years England’s premier shrine to Our Lady. The village of Little Walsingham is peppered with a rich array of medieval buildings, both religious and secular, plus many significant buildings from later centuries. Join renowned Blue Badge Guide, Scilla Landale, as she leads us on a tour round Walsingham which is still, in the 21st century, very much an important place of pilgrimage.
We start at the Anglican Shrine for coffee and Scilla’s introductory talk. We then follow Scilla on a tour which includes visits to some buildings not normally open to the public. Scilla will explain Walsingham’s rich history and also its role as a legal centre and thriving Georgian market town.
Tickets are £45 and include our tour, coffee on arrival, a two-course lunch at Elmham House in the Friday Market Place and all entry fees. Please wear stout shoes and warm clothes, we shall be outside for some of the day!
Event hosted by Charlotte Crawley. Please note, we shall keep an eye on the forecast and reschedule if the weather is severe.
