Join us for a day in Cambridge in which we will be seeing exhibitions and collections with a focus on work by women. We start at the Women's Art Collection at Murray Edwards College. Curator Harriet Loffler (formerly of Norwich Castle) will welcome us and tell us about this remarkable collection.

Curator Laura Moseley will then give us a tour of her exhibition The Sleepers (which is supported by EAAF). Scenes of rest have long been a generative motif for women artists, helping them to articulate complex and differing experiences of family, health and work. The Sleepers surveys works by 12 artists to explore why sleeping, dreaming and resting have been depicted by women artists.

We will then make our way by foot (a 10 minute walk) to Kettle's Yard where we will have lunch. At 2pm, we will be welcomed by Director Andrew Nairne OBE, and will see Another Chance Encounter. This exhibition by Lubaina Himid, one of the UK’s most celebrated contemporary artists, presents new paintings and a special installation made in collaboration with Magda Stawarska. Initially trained in theatre design, Himid is best known for her innovative approaches to painting and social engagement, playing a pivotal role in the British Black Arts movement since the 1980s. Over the last decade, she has earned international recognition for her figurative canvases, which explore overlooked and invisible aspects of history and contemporary daily life.

A visit to the Kettle's Yard House is not included in this event as numbers through the house are limited. However, there will be time from 3pm to visit the house, if you wish. We recommend you book a ticket for the house in advance, by following this link KETTLE'S YARD

Tickets are £35 per person and include tours and lunch. Your host on the day is Amanda Geitner.
