East Gallery NUA is delighted to present a range of works by ground-breaking artist, Hans-Peter Feldmann. The exhibition of Hans-Peter’s work at East Gallery NUA will be the first major showing of his creative output in the region and has been curated by Professor Neil Powell.

Hans-Peter is well known for making humorous and insightful interventions on works of art. Copies of old master paintings are retouched and don red noses, or display (in)conspicuous tan lines. Versions of celebrated sculptures are luridly refigured, Michaelangelo’s David, which features in the show, being just one example. The title, ‘Art Exhibition’ is a joke in itself- in one way it’s obvious that this is an art exhibition with paintings and sculptures in an art gallery. But Feldmann is playing with the idea of authorship by taking existing objects and artworks and manipulating them and defying the conventions of ‘art’ by not signing or dating his work.

German-born Feldmann has exhibited in many major art venues worldwide and is an important figure in the debate around post-conceptual art. In 2016, Artsy magazine placed Hans-Peter in the world’s top 10 artists, in 2009 Hans-Peter’s work was one of the highlights of the Venice Biennale and in 2010 he was awarded the prestigious Hugo Boss Art Prize. His work is held in collections in the UK (Tate), the USA (Guggenheim, Hirschorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington), Denmark (Louisiana Museum) and Spain (MACBA, Museo Reina Sophia, Madrid).

The exhibition is open from Saturday 6 May to Saturday 22 July, Tuesday – Saturday, 12 – 5pm. Admission to all exhibitions is free.

East Gallery NUA is funded by Norwich University of the Arts. Exhibition supported by Simon Lee Gallery, London, Norfolk & Norwich Festival and the East Anglia Art Fund.
