Artists explore water, instability, and transformation in GroundWork Gallery’s fifth annual residency exhibition. Fluid Earth brings together sixteen artists whose work examines water as both material and metaphor.
Developed through a residency across Norfolk’s rivers, chalk streams, and coastal zones, the project extends the gallery’s long-standing interest in extraction and environmental change.
Director Veronica Sekules explains, “We chose the title Fluid Earth to explore water’s presence in all its forms — from the literal to the symbolic. In an era of climate instability and political tension, we need to cultivate flexibility, empathy and care.”
The participating artists are Liz Ballard, Susan Brinkhurst, CWxWC (a collaboration between Cecilia Wee and William Crosby), Matt Green, Caroline Forward, Jiang Shanshan (Anne), Isaac Oloche Johnson, Liz McGowan, Bridget McKenzie, Louis Neale, Mahmood Pouyandeh, Michelle Wood, with works contributed by Sabīne Šnē, Rosa Whiteley, and El Witley. Together, these artists illuminate the interconnectedness of human and natural systems, and invite audiences to reflect on what it means to live fluidly.
