The DM21 Creative Hub: Incubator Studio Spaces and Exhibition Project for New and Emerging Artists.

Incubator enables new and emerging artists and makers to establish their first studio, supported within a strong creative community of artists and makers with an established reputation. During each residency the artists have three months guided mentoring, time to grow their practise in a supportive and interested community, they can exhibit and sell their work and explore how they will develop their business.

At the end of each residency, Incubator artists mount a collaborative Showcase Exhibition in the DM21 Creative Hub Gallery; celebrating their progress and the work produced during their time at designermakers21.

designermakers21 has been instrumental in my development as an artist for almost a decade. I am immensely inspired by the thriving community of artists based at and surrounding DM21. These artists share in the generation of a creatively open, welcoming and highly supportive dynamic, rooted in an exceptionally high standard of work. Poppy Jackson

My first month has been amazing. I’ve met and been able to observe and learn from the creative process of the many amazing artists in the building. It’s also been great to have the support of my fellow incubator residents, learning from their experience and sharing common challenges and ideas. Sonia Gomez

January - March residencies:

Shelby Redfern is an illustrator and ceramicist interested in diverting the mainstream and celebrating the unusual. Her work, featuring zines, ceramic pots and figurines is inspired by punk/alt music, retro objects, traditional tattoo art, folklore and the supernatural.

Poppy Jackson makes work that explores the female body. Jackson's practice spans live performance, painting, sculpture and printmaking, and often focuses on public space and architecture in relation to the body.

Sonia Gomez creates Mixed Media Compositions that are inspired by encounters with the natural world and the flora and fauna of her homes in Norfolk, Sri Lanka, and found on her travels. She uses colour, pattern and variety of materials to create gardens and seascapes, populated with surrealist birds and creatures.

April - June residencies:

We are delighted to welcome back

  • Caryn Louis, ceramics, mixed media and painted work
  • Shelby Redfern, ceramics and illustration
  • Poppy Jackson and Converge

And to introduce the new Incubator artists:

  • Steph Baker who creates abstract paintings in mixed media, often working with acrylic, oil sticks, and gold leaf, inspired by Norfolk and human connections.
  • Harmony Shaw, a landscape artist creating paintings that are inspired by a love of trees, forests, and the outdoors, especially in Suffolk.
