Conserving the Medieval Screen from St Gregory’s, Norwich
The surviving part of screen from the Lady chapel in the north aisle of St Gregory’s church in Norwich was rediscovered in the 1860s. It is an early example, probably from the 1430s, of a screen with painted figures and thus important for understanding the development of church screens in East Anglia. It also indicates close artistic connections at this time between Norwich and painting in the Lower Rhineland around Cologne. This short film documents the recent project to conserve and investigate the making and history of the screen.
