Join us for this wonderful opportunity to visit Raveningham Hall and Gardens in the morning, followed by the Raveningham Centre in the afternoon.
The day will begin inside Raveningham Hall, a country house built around 1750 for Sir Edmund Bacon, the 8th and 9th Baronet. It remains in the family and is now the home of Sir Nicholas Bacon and Lady Bacon. Nicholas will give an introduction to the house and its history. The Hall includes an excellent collection of art works, and art curator, Dr Giorgia Bottinelli, will give a talk focussing on various of these works. The day then continues with a tour – led by Nicholas and Susan – of the extensive and varied gardens. These include a walled Victorian kitchen garden, a herb garden, a rose garden and a newly-created stumpery.
We will have a light lunch at the ARTisan coffee shop at the Raveningham Centre a mile and a half from the Hall. The Centre is the home of the annual August Sculpture Trail and will give members the chance to view the semi-wild garden and woodland which is all part of the Raveningham Estate. Liz and Mal Cannell, who live on the site and run their rug and textile business from the old stables, will walk members through the delights of this wild space and talk about the Sculpture Trail. (As the Trail itself takes place later in the year, this will be an opportunity to see the garden before that time.)
We will need footwear suitable for inside the Hall and for garden tours!
