It is a privilege to have architectural historian and artist, John Maddison and renowned medievalist, Professor Sandy Heslop to lead our day looking at four remarkable Norfolk Churches – St Peter & St Paul (Swaffham), St James the Great (Castle Acre), St George’s (Gooderstone) and St Andrew’s (Northwold).

This group of stunning churches has been selected because they are all excellent examples of how churches have been adapted and updated: with early features reused in later major architectural enhancements. Between them, these churches offer marvellous examples of a 'founder's' tomb, medieval glass (of various periods), painted screens and pulpits, fonts with stylised covers, early nave pews and a fabulous Easter Sepulchre at St Andrew’s, Northwold.

The day will start in Swaffham church at 11.00am where tea and coffee will be provided. A coach will then collect us and drive to Castle Acre to visit St James', followed by lunch at The George and Dragon pub. The coach will then drive to the two remaining churches, St George’s, Gooderstone and St Andrew’s, Northwold before returning us to the car park in Swaffham at approximately 5.00pm.

Tickets are £60 per person and include refreshments at Swaffham church, a two-course lunch at The George and Dragon and coach transport between the churches.
